My old kayakfishing milk crate was on it's last leg, cracking around the bottom edge so I decided to make a new crate that is a little more handy than the open top one I'm using now.
I started with the crates we picked up from the dump, the red one in the first picture was to cracked so it was replaced with a black one to make the lid.

Used the table saw to cut off the bottom to make the top lid.

Smoothing out the top and any cut marks with a sander.

Next I cut the second crate where the ribs start to make a shallow tray and smoothed it out with the sander.

Fitting the tray and the lid was the next step.

The crates where not even so some fitting had to be done using the sander and a knife.

Stacked the parts together to make sure they don't bind. I use the sander to bevel the edges just a little to remove any bind.

Lid fits nice but there is an edge that binds the lid when opening it.

The same bind is between the tray and the crate so some more fitting has to be done.

I have to continue in another post because of the images.
