We're going to have to open the tournaments to electric boats.

Don, that set up is really amazing! I like how the motor floats, and also how it's modular so you can drop it in or take it out. The battery compartment and the reverse is also great. And it's great that it's still a kayak.

I hope the tournament does open up to electric motors as well, because I know there are members like yourself who could participate if that rule were changed.

Very exciting to see.. many thanks!

Wow! Brilliant design. That is going to attract a lot of anglers.

We should open up a separate thread for discussion of motor driven boats for the tourney.

Good idea, Dude. Wonder if anyone has one of the electric trolling motors yet?

And before you get too excited Don, just remember that at 5.5 mph I could still outpaddle you with your electric motor. laugh.gif

In all seriousness, I saw a poll on another kayak fishing site and a large chunk (majority as a matter of fact) of kayak fishermen were in the 45- 65 age range. That's when aches and pains can set in for some folks, and keep them off the water. It sure would be fun fishing with you Don, so I hope the rule will change. During a 44 hour tournament, I wonder how it would play out with using the motor and then having to plug in for recharge?

I suppose we should think about what advantage the motor would give guys in the tournament vs. those who use paddle or pedals. I have heard the reverse motor setting can be used to fight fish by tiring them. In addition, a trolling motor might allow someone to stay out longer, since they'd be a bit less tired from paddling/ pedaling. Aside from those advantages, it seems that most of kayak fishing is skill, knowledge and experience + being able to read the water and choose the best spot at the best times, and of course a dose of luck.

Maybe the line could be drawn at electric trolling motors, and then not allowing gas motors.. or motors going over 5.5 mph.
