After all the searching I did through patterns, I opted to make up my own flies for the first ones. These are not my first flies, but they are my first flies tied in my new vice and without any advice!

Nice flies clapping.gif

The big one is a good bunker imitation, great shape. ( a touch of blue on the top and maybe some yellow through the sides would work ) don't be afraid to use color in the fly, it adds pop. The little one is a good bay anchovy and would fool a False Albacore.

Thanks guys!

There is a little bit of blue in the bunker, do you mean over the very top? There is some light blue right behind the dark blue tinsel, but not visible in the photo. There's also a bit of light blue in the belly but that didn't work out so well - you can't see it at all and it makes the belly divide (bad materials match). If you saw this fly in person you would find it too puffy as well.

The "anchovy" was just an adventure in Orange. biggrin.gif

.......... Overall though, I agree - nice ties!

I didn't know you could use markers! This is getting more fun by the minute! biggrin.gif cheer.gif

And yes, big was intentional for exactly that reason - easier. But don't you worry, trout are my favorite catch so I intend to tie lots of tiny flies too!

Brenda,
You can use any material you can find. The inside of chip bags are mylar. Tied enough black nosed daces with it. Many of my daugters dols had hair missing as well as pets. rolleyes.gif This was before the synthetic craze. Any material can be used. You just have to have confidence that it will catch fish.

That is hilarious! I will definately keep my creative eye on the possibilities around the house! I have tons of craft stuff and jewelry-making supplies... need to clean that closet anyways...
