Brenda.. have you checked out flytyingforum.com yet ...they're good people from all over the world & very helpful....I think you should just tie yourself a simple Blue Winged Olive & get out to the Farmington & catch yourself a trout....after that , you'll never buy another fly

I am waiting until Saturday, because by the time I get home from work, it's dark, and I have terrible lighting in my house. Also, I'm finding I need some supplies: definately some hackle. Between now and then, I'm going to collect patterns I want to try, take inventory of what supplies I have and what I need, and possibly take a ride up your way to the flyshop this weekend.
I'm out of work again, as of tomorrow. I took a 6 week assignment back in November to build an internal website for a big company, and they extended me through the end of January. Now it's the end of January, they're thrilled with their website - but the job's done and it's time to go home.
I'll have lots of time on my hands, but time FLIES when you're having fun!
(PS is anyone tired of the fly jokes yet?)

My first fly was a flop - literally. The big flat sparkly beautiful silverside fly that was supposed to sink a ways and swim instead landed flat on top of the water and looked more like a dead fish getting dragged - which could have caught fish I guess if they were looking for an easy target. It was a sad sight! Mac I guess that's what you mean by "failures", eh?
I have been tying Ray's flies in colors that hit my mood - I tied some pink/red/brown for Valentines day, some blue/silver/white rainy day flies, and some yellow sunshine flies.
I learned basic techniques for trout flies from one of the guys at the CTRI fly club, and tomorrow am headed to Saybrook to get some hackle for dries and some hooks. I promised a friend a dozen nymphs and a dozen dries for a big fishing trip he's taking - to keep my lucky vice paying it forward... and keep my fishing Karma good!
