Hello there,

Let me introduce myself – third season kayaker, lifelong angler.
This is my second season kayak fishing with very little success so far this year.
I’ve been getting them from shore, but not from kayak. Is anyone having any luck in Branford/New Haven? Maybe you can show me how to make them bite.

That would be me. wink.gif

I'm actually heading out now to fish the reefs off Branford Harbor tonight. This will be my first time in Branford this year. Fingers crossed.

Hi infofly,

if you are in the area tonight. Hook up with Dude he outfished me on the last outing at Prudence and again at the Rodeo smile.gif I'm slacking.

Welcome to UKF and let us know when you are launching, maybe someone will be in your area. I know Tinman and Oilcan are fishing there so you should see some activity for that area.

thanks guys.

Dude,

I went out to the east from the Harbor last couple of weekends trolling the tube. There are several rocks and small islands towards Pine Orchard, but nobody was interested.

Let me know when you plan to go out next time and if you feel like having some company.

Thanks.

Infofly,

Actually, Oilcan is closer to New Haven than I am. My home waters are the South Coast of RI. You can try him though; he's always looking to meet & fish with other 'yak fishermen. I do know he'll be out of town for the next two weeks (flyfishing in the Pac. Northwest, lucky dog!) until the last week of July though.

I know the area very well. I live on "Scum Beach" about half way between the harbor and Pine Orchard.

I'm always happy to have company, but it seems like I get out less and less. I've got company here for the rest of the holiday weekend and I'm out of town the next weekend. My next time out probably won't be until the 17th.

Hi infofly, I live in Wallingford and started kayak fishing last year -- mostly freshwater. I just bought a sit on top and have been out in West Haven a couple of times, also with little success -- one small rock bass.

I am looking for people to go out with also, since fishing alone at night in the sound is not the best idea.

Let me know if you will be going out next weekend.

If you are interested, I will probably be going out tonight at the West Haven Pier.

Thanks guys,

Dude, no problem, enjoy the holiday. Thanks.

Samfatboy, maybe we can hook up for the next weekend.

I went out kayaking this morning, the wind got to 20 kt at times and got bumpy in Branford harbor. So after going half distance to Stony Creek I decided to turn around and head back home. Strong wind from SW blowing against the tide - it was not very pleasant ride.
No bait or birds out there.

Just moved to the area... I've been out on the yak three times. I've caught one fluke 1st time(yozuri crystal minnow),... 1 blue 2nd time(rattle trap),... one sea robin 3rd time(white buck tail jig squid trailer). Where are the fish? Does east haven just not have very good fishing? The water does not have much depth variation (seems to be 10ft to 25ft within kayak distance which is pretty far).
I'm from OBX N.C. and not familiar with northern fishing. Am I doing something wrong?
