The Mass Shootout was a great tournament. It was fun to see old friends and meet new ones.

We didn't have the size of fish that Craig told me of last year, but made up for that in quantity.

Saturday I fished the outer Islands off Salem and marblehead. My largest was a fat 33" with a dozen more from 22" to 31". I also had our share of bluefish. (Eight 18" to 27")

As those of you that know me... I always have a story or two to tell:

The Bluefish bite was on. After landing a 27" Blue, I unhooked him and started to push him off the edge of my YAK. At that moment, I swear the fish smiled at me then lunged a foot at my leg (just like a rattlesnake) at the last second it opened it's mouth and bit my leg.

On Sunday we (Nightstalker from NEKF) returned to Children's Island (2 miles off Salem) to find as many Stripers as we wanted to catch(20 to 30 inch) . Between the two of us we caught 30 to 35 and a few more of those peske Bluefish.

For me the best fishing happened while trolling by some large rocks on the seaward side of Children's Island. With the synchronized timing two stripers hit both lines, A double. I new if I stopped to fight either fish I would probably drift into the rocks and wave serge. (That would have been another story). I peddled clear of the rocks, and lobster pots, checked the rods and put the smaller fish (rod) into a rod holder. Kept peddling to keep the smaller fish line tight and brought the larger fish to the YAK. Once I had him there I left him hooked and reeled in the other fish. Nightstalker came by and snapped a picture of me holding both fish. (Can't get much better than that)

Joe and the NEKF gang put on an excellent tournament BZ to them!

Fishing is not a matter of Life and Death, It's much more important than that!!!

I know why the bluefish spit you out... to much hair...

I'm glad you are OK and it seems like the bite is not infected so you where lucky... Sounds like another great shootout and some excellent fishing...

I still say you should trade mark that bite and start your own line of kayak fishing stuff! (starting with a 1st aid kit!) Great meeting you guys. Scotty.

Tim,

It was good seeing and fishing with you again. I have to figure out how to come up with a story for every trip like you do. I still think you had the story planned and held that thing down by your leg on purpose...."the Proof" You are lucky he cooperated. bleh.gif yikes.gif

All kidding asside, really glad it didn't get any worse than it did. There are blood vessle thingies in that area and then to end up with no infection. Very lucky indeed.

For myself, I ended up with a bunch in the 20" to 30" range but then about a half dozen over thirty including a 35" and a 36-1/2". Had an absolute blast fishing with friends old and new.

Where did you get that rod-holder that plugs into the semi-useless holes in a Hobie?

Tim,
much better story than last time....and you are smiling with the fish.

You guys caught a lot of fish. That's the weekend we take my son to college. Guess he better graduate next year.

I saw those rod holders at McGrews in RI but I bet you can get them other places. The right size pvc also can extend the rods up.

How are those kayak stands??
