You guys are probably getting sick of me asking for help but here it goes smile.gif

I'm having some trouble with rigging a milk crate and bucket for live bait.

Ive always had the milk crate and used a trolling bucket but the trolling bucket is getting to be cumbersome.

I want a way to get my milk crate on there for storage of tackle box, gaff, rod holders, etc but I also want to take a standard 5 gallon bucket with a bubble box along for live bait.

How the hell do I rig both? Am I going to have to choose between a crate for storage and a bucket? Do I need to stick with the trolling bait bucket? Im going to attach a picture of the back of my yak, maybe somebody can give some suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Think about using the inside of the bucket for the live well and hang rod holders, plug pouches or whatever around the outside.

I prefer to use Scotty or rocket launcher (RAM) rod holders mounted to the kayak and use the milk crate or bucket for everything else. My reason is, mounting rod holders on a crate/bucket forces the rods in only one direction, generally straight up, but mounting the RAM or Scotty holders on the kayak itself allows an almost infinite numbers of angles to point the rods.

Makes sense. I'm not really ready to add any more flush mounts or scottys yet, but one day I will. I think I will try to mount some pvc on the bucket but I gotta figure out how. Will probably have to drill a couple holes.

I got radical enough to lmost want to strap rods to the side of my yak. But that can't be good em.

I have crate rigged with an eel bucket inside the crate, held in place with a bungee cord.

Extra carry rod holders (pvc tube) attached to the crate and it's room for extra tackle between the bucket and the crate.

I have a couple of AquaSkinz bags that I use for plugs, leader material and terminal tackle.

This sounds like a great opportunity to practice water-tight hardware mounting skills on a nice, cheap bucket instead of on a beloved watercraft. I can just picture a standard 5-gallon bucket with pad eyes, hooks, cleats, bungies, Scotty mounting pads, RAM ball mounts, and velcro loops.

Using a crate vs bucket gives you more options. I have all sorts of things (pliers/grip/rod holders/jars/etc) attached to my crate. It makes it easy to setup fast at the dock. You could put your bucket inside the crate.
