That's pretty much it... just another tax/fee to bring revenue intot he state general fund. Doubtful that a dollar of the money raised will go to the fisheries.
Yes, laddie, we're from the government, and we're here to help you...to become a better angler. Now you believe us, don't you?

That photo on the left is of my buddy G. Ray, paddling into a sunset off Old Saybrook -- a sunset I'll never forget -- and an evening of struggling against the tide and current that he'll never forget!
The profile photo is on the Salmon River, Altmar, NY with a nice, cold, January steelhead on the fly, and me experimenting with a mustache and the rabbit hat. The hat stayed, the mustache...gone!

We are better off if the federal government issues the license. It will be for all states.
I can find reason to support the saltwater license. The concept certainly helps conservation and animal herd control re: hunting.
I'm more concerned about whether the funds will be used as stated or 'lost' in the maze of co-mingled funds for other purposes.
Keep paddling, keep fishing, leave no trace.

Hi jgpaddler,
welcome to the site. I know we will have a saltwater license - what I'm objecting to this year is how they stuff this fee down our throat 1/2 way through the year. The money is supposed to go to conservation - great if it happens. I'm afraid it will be used to add another layer of bureaucracy and the fees will be used to pay for another office manager somewhere. Pencil pushers will work hard to establish their power over our resources.
We as fishermen have to follow the rule for each state we fish in, that mean we can only keep fish that meets the minimum requirements from the most restrictive state and only keep the amount of fish allowed by the same restrictive rules. There should be one license and the regulations should match across states and minimum size for recreational should be the same as minimum size for commercial.
We have to keep up on where the funds are used and conservation and conservation officers are one appropriate use that I would agree to.

Hi Nils,
Thank you. Happy to be a member of the group.
I agree. If we must have a license, then it should be a universal Federal ticket. This will eliminate state labor costs and inevitable beauracracy.
Keep paddling, keep fishing, leave no trace.
